- 2 slices Sturdy Bread (White, whole grain, or sourdough recommended)
- 2 large Eggs (Use egg whites for a lighter version)
- 1/2 cup Cheese (Cheddar, gruyere, or mixed cheeses)
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Herbs (e.g., thyme, rosemary, can be skipped in a rush)
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt (Adjust according to cheese used)
- 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon Cayenne (Optional for spice)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven or air fryer: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) or set your air fryer to the same temperature to ensure even cooking.
- Toast the bread: Lightly toast the bread slices in a toaster for 2–3 minutes until they are slightly crispy but not fully browned.
- Prepare the egg mixture: In a bowl, whisk the eggs for about 1 minute until well beaten. Add cheese, fresh herbs, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if using. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
- Assemble the toasts: Spread the egg and cheese mixture evenly over the toasted bread slices placed on a baking sheet.
- Bake or air fry: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes, or air fry for 6–8 minutes, until the egg mixture is puffed up and golden on top.
- Cool and serve: Allow the toasts to cool for a minute before serving. Enjoy with fresh fruit or a side salad for a balanced breakfast.
Notes
- Use whole grain or sourdough bread for added nutrition and texture.
- To reduce calories, use only egg whites.
- Fresh herbs can be omitted or substituted with dried herbs if fresh are not available.
- Adjust the salt quantity according to the saltiness of the cheese you use.
- For a spicier kick, increase or omit the cayenne pepper based on preference.
- Leftover toasts can be refrigerated and reheated in a toaster oven for a quick snack.
