Description
A delicious and easy-to-make Berry Croissant Bake combining flaky croissants with fresh berries and a creamy custard, perfect for a comforting breakfast or brunch treat.
Ingredients
Scale
Croissants and Berries
- 4 large croissants, broken into small pieces (should be already baked croissants, not dough)
- 1 cup sliced strawberries
- ½ cup blueberries
- ½ cup raspberries
Custard Mixture
- 1 block (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and spray a 9 x 9-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Arrange Croissants and Berries: Evenly spread the broken croissant pieces in the prepared baking dish. Then, distribute all the sliced strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries evenly over the croissant pieces.
- Prepare Custard Mixture: Using an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese until fluffy. Gradually add the granulated sugar, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing continuously until all ingredients are well combined to form a smooth custard.
- Combine and Chill: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants and berries in the baking dish. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 14 hours, allowing the croissants to soak in the custard.
- Bake the Dish: Remove the cover and bake the dish in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Serve: Serve the Berry Croissant Bake warm. Optionally dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with syrup for extra sweetness. Enjoy your comforting berry-filled breakfast bake!
Notes
- Use already baked croissants, not raw croissant dough, for best results.
- You can prepare this dish the night before and store it covered in the fridge, then bake in the morning.
- Swap fresh berries with frozen ones if fresh aren’t available; thaw and drain excess juice before using.
- For a richer flavor, substitute whole milk with cream or half-and-half.
- Add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg to the custard for added warmth and spice.
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened for smooth mixing and a creamy texture.
- Leftovers refrigerate well and can be reheated gently in the oven or microwave.
